Grams are the number everyone compares, and they are the least descriptive number on the page. Two extensions can carry an identical mass of hair and produce entirely different results, because mass says nothing about how that mass is arranged.
The governed coverage architecture makes this concrete: two of the three coverages are the same nominal weight.
Three coverages, two weights
Governed coverage architecture
| Coverage | Nominal weight | Construction |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Coverage | 100 g | Thin weft |
| Fuller Coverage | 150 g | Thin weft |
| Volume | 100 g | Volume weft |
Standard Coverage and Volume both carry 100 g. They are not the same product, and the configurator will not let them be confused: choosing Volume fixes the weight at 100 g, because Volume at 150 g is not a thing the catalogue makes.
What actually differs
The variable is the weft — how the hair is assembled onto its base before any of it reaches a head. A thin weft distributes a given mass across more of its length; a volume weft concentrates it. Same grams, different density per centimetre of weft, different behaviour when sectioned and installed.
That is why a professional specifies coverage rather than weight. Weight is an input to the decision; coverage is the decision.
Why the catalogue is built this way
Fusing weft construction and gram weight into a single Coverage value is a deliberate choice, and it removes a real failure: a shopper who selects 100 g without specifying construction has not finished choosing, and a shopper who selects Volume and 150 g has chosen something that does not exist. One field, three valid answers, no invalid combination.
What this article is not claiming
Nothing here is a claim about comfort, scalp health, damage or how long an installation lasts. Those are outcomes that depend on the head, the installation and the aftercare, and none of them is measured in the governed data. This is a description of construction only.
Where to look next
The Butterfly Weft method page explains how the weft is applied. The product experience lets you set texture, coverage and length together and see what each combination costs before deciding.
